hi, i have just recently had a ileostomy and have a very high output, i was wondering if anyone can give me tips on what type of foods slow it down? i am still on an early post-op diet and have'nt started eating fibre, veg or fruit?

Hi and welcome George!
This is a difficult question for me, because Gary aways says his output is a mystery to him, lol. I think foods like pasta, potatoes, etc. may slow things down. I've also read that marshmallows are supposed to slow the output dramatically, but as Gary doesn't like them I can't say from experience.
But do bear in mind that it's very early days for you. Your output will slow down in time, especially as your small intestine will, slowly, realise that your colon is missing and start to re-absorb a little of the water that you're currently losing.
One of the (few) concessions that Gary made to having an ileostomy was to eat his evening meal early in the evening. This makes night time much easier as he doesn't have to get up to empty. In the early days we used to, but this eventually stopped.

Thanks, Im probably being a little impatient, Ive only started to eat properly within the the last week, i got out of hospital yesterday and its great that theres sites like this for support.
