Help!
OK, I'm new to this so I have probably missed something!
I still have to wear a binder (elastic corset) to help my wound heel after the op and will do for another 4 weeks or so. The problem that I have is that the poo does not go into the bag but builds up and eventually seeps under the seal. Nice........... Also, I sleep on my left side which also inhibits normal stoma function.
Any ideas? I can live with this but any improvement will be good.
Thanks
Andre

Hi Andre, As my husband has an ileo, with a 'spout' it's difficult for me to help from experience. However, I knew that Jason would be able to offer advice if he was here. So I went a looking on his website and found two pages which should certainly help you:
Information on leaks: www.ostomy.fsnet.co.uk/leak.html
Information on pouches, including the fact that your stoma will be shrinking at first: www.ostomy.fsnet.co.uk/pouches.html
I hope this helps.

Andre, Hi! I have an illeostomy but I wish I could help you. Do you have an Enterstomal Therapist (ET)? That would help. I have a short stoma so I wear flanges with convexity which push out my stoma. I also wear a hernia belt. It fits tight and holds the pouch on and prevents most leaks. Some people use a smaller ostomy belt. Sounds like you are just cheking out all your options now since your surgery is so recent. I hope you get a lot of good advice like the links Kathy gave you. Kim

Thanks for the replies and links. I'm seeing my stoma nurse on Thursday 18th Dec. so I can run it by her. The worst thing about this is when the seal with the skin is breached and the smell............... skunk city This forum is such a good idea............. Thanks!
