Hi--my first time here.
My young nephew (13) has had a colostomy for several years. He has Crohn's Disease. No trouble managing the bag and he uses deodorizers for it successfully. However, he also experiences an anal discharge that causes a foul odor and much embarrassment, including a recent fight at school.
Any suggestions on how to handle that? I'm afraid he would think that Depends or any product like that would be too much like wearing a diaper...
I'll be grateful for any help you can offer. Thanks!
;o)

Hi Adam's Aunt (love the name!)
It's not unusual to experience a mucous discharge, but it's usually controllable. (People usually discharge it by sitting on the toilet.)
If he's no control it is possible he could be having a Crohn's flare.
I know some people do wash out the rectal stump, but he needs to speak to his nurse before doing anything like this.
Good luck!
