To be honest Hilary I havent heard of it being left like that before, and it doesnt make sense to leave it like that either because you and I both know how mucous is still generated by the bowel after being disconnected, and it never stops.
Therefore to me, it does sound logical that it could be a lump of mucous in which case once you have it removed and cleaned out you should be feeling a lot better, not only pain wise but health wise too because you wont be getting poisoned inside from stagnant mucous.
It's certainly good to hear that things are moving along now and hopefully you'll have it fixed by the end of april or so at the latest.
