My wife had an illiostomy many years ago. Recently she suffers terribly with stoma pain. She has problems with her pouch breaking it's seal and has to change it several times a day (at times). I as asking for help in the form of what type of cream, lotion or pain reducer she can apply to her stoma area. I wonder if spray-band aids could help. If anyone knows of a pain killer, or reliever is available please e-mail me. Thank You Ver Much, Mike

Hi Pat! Need a little more information about your wife's stoma. A stoma does not usually hurt. How does it feel? Does she use a wafer with a pre-cut stoma hole. ie: is it too tight or too loose? How long is her stoma? A short one can leak under the wafer and cause the wafer to come loose. Do you have an ET(Enterstomal Therapist) she can talk too? They can help with the questions you have. I had pouch problems. I bought a hernia belt and it holds the wafer tight on my tummy and prevents leaks. It's not for everyone but it can be a lifesaver. You don't have to have a hernia to wear it. There are also smaller ostomy belts people use. I bought a 7 inch belt and cut 2 inches off it where I could and turned it upside down so it has more of the belt under the plastic stoma hole. It has a velcro closing. Hope this helps. Hugs, Kim in Calif

Hi there, Reading your post mike Im wondering if it's the actual skin around the stoma, and the actual stoma - to - skin wound that is being burned by the stool with all the leakage and it's this burning pain/sensation she's experiencing. Esp with an ileostomy which has such liquid acidic stool. In such a case a carrier cream will be a big help. Coloplast make an excellent one. Also, it would help it she reads the leakage page of the site to help combat the leakage itself because if it is this that she's experience sussing the leakage is the key to the problem. www.ostomy.fsnet.co.uk/leak.html - it also gives advice on skin care as well as leakage combat on that page. Take care, and if we can help at all please do get in touch. Buh bye now, Jason D. webmaster and colostomist. www.ostomy.fsnet.co.uk
